“Why don’t you think you need therapy...” she asks. They stopped and quietly breathed to themselves. They had a look of confusion and guilt, knowing that they were speaking to someone who went to therapy. They knew that they had once said that they think that everyone should go to therapy, but they only said it because that’s what everyone says. There was a deep pause before the conversation went on. “Is it because you don’t think you need it? Because you’re not diagnosed with something?” There was another pause. This one was deeper and longer than the one before with a look of disgrace from them. It went on, and on, and on. She knew what they wanted to answer with, so this time she let the pause linger until they answered. They slowly started to answer. They awkwardly smile with half of their face. They start to shake their head.
“Yes,” they say.
“So you think you’re perfect,” I quickly say, having that response ready to go. “That sounds like a problem in itself, all the more reason to go to therapy, don’t you think?”
